Now That’s Nutrition!

Posted by Janice On July - 31 - 2007

Yesterday my toddler ate the following:

Two 8 oz bottles of milk for breakfast
1/2 a pancake
One bite of a sausage
4 oz bottle of milk before nap
4 oz bottle of milk after nap
3 spoonfuls of Macaroni and cheese
A bowl of Cocoa Puffs
A bowl of goldfish crackers

I feel like such an awful parent, even though I did offer carrots, a peach, an orange and a banana throughout the day along with water and juice – she refused to eat it.  Anyone got some ideas on how to disguise fruits and veggies?

This is why I am so totally and completely in love with you:

You know when it’s time to sleep, and when it’s not.  You always manage to let mommy have an hour of peace every afternoon while Sierra naps – you’re such an awesome baby!

Readers, Bloggers & Insane Toddlers

Posted by Janice On July - 24 - 2007

My pal Michelle started up a blog about well.. blogging and internet tools called MEGO. Now after reading her 2nd post about RSS Feeds and readers, I decided to resurrect/clean up my Google Reader subscriptions. A lot of the blogs I used to read are gone (and unfortunately I can’t find those bloggers anymore  ). Now one of my subscriptions is to Dooce and thankfully she’s still around. She is by far one of the most talented writers I read on a regular basis. Her post yesterday night actually made me laugh so hard that I sprayed decaf (grumble, grumble) tea all over my monitor, causing my Insane Toddler to toddle and exclaim “Mommy, throw up!”. (A phrase she learned yesterday after she proceeded to throw up on the only light coloured carpet in the whole freaking house – thank goodness for the Bissell Little Green). I think the reason I keep going back to Dooce’s site is because I can really relate to her posts:

“we drove to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream after dinner. And things were fine until we hit a language barrier, when she asked for a cup but meant a cone, and we were supposed to have known what she meant. Sorry, but I don’t speak Insane Toddler.

And then she wanted a cup of water or something like that, but we figured, you know, not every kid in the world has had the luxury of visiting an ice cream parlor, and here ours was making a fuss because the delivery receptacle did not suit her liking. So we said NO WATER FOR YOU. Which I guess when translated into Insane Toddler means ACT LIKE YOU HAVE JUST SWALLOWED BATTERY ACID.”

I found this while cleaning out my “My Documents” folder:

I have no idea where to order a chairmaster from, but apparently we already own one of these:

Monday Madness

Posted by Janice On July - 23 - 2007

!@(img_0168.JPG popimg: “Sierra and Brooke”) 1st day on my own with two children… and so far we’ve made it to naptime with no temper tantrums, meltdowns, screaming matches or fights! Tracy and Konnor met us for a park visit and lunch. I bet that’s why we had no power struggles today. It was fun and it was a great help to have an extra set of hands to hold Brooke while I cooked lunch. Afterwards, Sierra even went down for her nap easily (well, after calling me back into her room to get her “Puppy Book” ’cause she “can’t reach, mommy… can’t reach, mommy…”. So cute. At least she didn’t talk to her toes for 45 min before falling asleep. There’s a story about that…

On Sunday (?) I painted Sierra’s toes for her. While Rob was off he was on toddler monitor duty at night. Apparently she awoke several time during the week to play and talk to her toes. LOL. It’s time to get rid of her monitor (and maybe her night light too).

During my “free time” today I took a moment to come up with a new banner for this site (which may now become a complete re-design). Here it is:

Tell me what you think! (And is anyone interested in doing a re-design for me?)

Mama Needs A Coffee!

Posted by Janice On July - 16 - 2007

Today was a nice relaxing day. Baby Brooke has been having two “fussy” periods a day: one in the morning, and another in the evening. Other than that she’s the perfect baby – eat, sleep and poo. Now I say “fussy” b/c compared to Sierra’s fussiness, Brooke isn’t fussy at all. Rob noticed that the fussy periods start right after I have caffeine – I have two coffees in the morning and a diet coke in the late afternoon. So today I took his suggestion: I gave up caffeine. I had 3 decaf coffees this morning (yes 3 – I know bad girl, but whatever – it was like drinking sugar water, right?). Unfortunately Rob was right (he’s always freaking right!). Brooke was an AMAZING baby today. She sat wide eyed and awake in her bouncy chair while I delt with a toddler meltdown, and then before the toddler even stopped screaming, Brooke fell asleep. (How on earth anyone can sleep through that racket is beyond me). Boo hoo for me – no more coffee, tea, cola or chocolate (Jon’ll have to eat choclate for me). I’d write more tonight about my day – but b/c I haven’t had any caffeine today I have a KILLER withdrawl headache – I’m off to bed now to sleep it off. ‘Night all!

About Me

This blog is about me – Janice, a wife, mother, employee, runner, softball player, internet addict and a completely obsessed New Kids On The Block fan. My blog title is about my running, as at the time this blog began back in 2004 I was a running mother-to-be, training for a 1/2 marathon. Part way through the pregnancy running became too uncomfortable for me leading me to slowly back off on my running. Now a days “Mom On The Run” is a reflection of how busy life has become caring for 2 completely adorable, yet “spirited” little girls while my hubby travels A LOT for business, though I do still run on occasion.
