Mom On The Run

Sharing Health and Fitness Tips Because Life is a Marathon… Not a Track Meet

Perseverance

I haven’t really told any of you this, but I figure now is as good a time as any. (No – I’m not pregnant). My BIG news is….

I’m training to run a 10K.

I’m going to drop everything for cancers below the waist and run in The Underwear Affair ‘09 on August 29, 2009. Yes – I’m going to run 10K through the streets of Toronto in my underwear :) Mom – aren’t you so proud of me?

For the past couple of months I’ve quietly been chugging out kilometre after kilometre in the heat on my lunches at work. On Tuesday I did my longest run in over a year: 6.85 Km. It felt absolutely incredible! And I’m so glad to be back – I *almost* feel like my old self again. My run was so good on Tuesday that I fell asleep in Sierra’s bed next to her while putting her to bed – LOL!

Today I totally persevered and ran despite not packing any socks in my gym bag. Did you know that running without socks messes your feet right-the-hell-up? I am now sporting an entire box of band-aids on my feet. I’m ok with it though ’cause I managed to run 5K before the pain caused me to stop.

Today’s run reminded me of a great quote that I want to share with you:

You can’t hit a home run unless you step up to the plate. You can’t catch a fish unless you put your line in the water. You can’t reach your goals if you don’t try.
Kathy Seligman

So go on now everyone – get out there, try and persevere! If I can do it, so can you!

    Hi Janice,
For some reason I first read “pregnant” instead of “not pregnant”… which I hear can happen if you run around a lot in your underwear. :) Train hard, and good luck on the run! ~ Steve, the trade show guru

I think you SHOULD run in your underwear! Think about it – this is a fundraiser, right? And you want to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause, right? Who WOULDN’T pay to see you run in your underware??? Heck, I’D pay to see that! Even if you decide not to run in your underwear, I’ll still support ya – just let me know when, where and how! BTW – I ran the Canada Day Whitby Waterfront race in Brooklin, which was a 5 miler/8 km and posted another PB – 49:37! Woo Hoo :)

About Me

This blog is about me – Janice, a wife, mother, employee, runner, softball player, internet addict and a completely obsessed New Kids On The Block fan. My blog title is about my running, as at the time this blog began back in 2004 I was a running mother-to-be, training for a 1/2 marathon. Part way through the pregnancy running became too uncomfortable for me leading me to slowly back off on my running. Now a days “Mom On The Run” is a reflection of how busy life has become caring for 2 completely adorable, yet “spirited” little girls while my hubby travels A LOT for business, though I do still run on occasion.
