Seven years ago, the world as we know it changed. The world came crashing down around us, figuratively and literally. There are so many things we no longer consider to be safe: airports, planes, our workplaces, buses, trains, subway and other forms of mass transportation. We live in constant fear. Fear of what *could* happen, what *might* happen. Yet we continue to rush around – trying to do more, make more, be more. More, more, more, MORE! Greed consumes us all – leading us to treat others badly.
Today, I’d like for you, all of my dear readers, to stop your busy day to think, remember and reflect. Remember the heroism that was displayed on September 11, 2001 by the many, many people that risked their lives and gave their lives to save others. Remember the people that helped others, remember how we all came together to offer support to each other as the shock and awe of what happened that dreadful day sunk in. I want you to think about what’s important to you, what matters most – our friends and family. Stay in tonight, celebrate life and spend some extra time with the ones that matter most to you. Give your kids an extra ounce of attention today, give them an extra hug as you tuck them safe into their beds. Turn the TV, computers etc off and spend some quality time with your significant other. Yanno, make a little love, do a little dance, get DOWN tonight! Treat others how you expect to be treated – hold the door for a pregnant woman, an older person – HECK! Just hold the door open for someone – a few seconds isn’t going to make you late. Just plain do what those dreadful people didn’t do 7 years ago.

7 years sure does fly by. This has been on my mind since I started dating papers at work this morning.
I do agree that greed consumes all of us in some ways.
I won’t get to see my oldest today, but my wife and I are going to eat school lunch with my youngest (the food is awful, but the time is priceless)
Holding a door for someone is something I always do if anyone is close to me when walking into or out of soemwhere. The best thing is that I see both of my boys starting to pick up doing that for people … makes me think I am doing something right. (monkey see … monkey do).
Thanks for the reminder that we keep this day (and all, really) in our hearts. It was a terrible day in what happened, but a great day in the outpouring of support. Keeping that alive today is more difficult as time has made us (me) forget. So, thank you for keeping this in the forefront of our hearts and minds.
I’ll try to fit that into my busy schedule. Nah, I always do that stuff anyway cuz I’m fabulous.
I did hear some recollections on the radio this morning that had those poor people in my heart. I can only hope that nothing like that ever happens here.
BTW, something’s up with your site. It’s taking a really long time to load, and even to get to the comment page – we’ll see what it’s like with the comment posting in a second.

I think that it’s both awesome and saddening that you as citizen of another country takes time to remember the day.
Awesome because we should unite as a world of nations not fight each other.
Saddened because the global impact that that day had on the entire world and how much it changed everything and the reach that it had!
Now we are dealing with Hurrican Ike hitting TX, still feeling the sting of Hurricane Katrina

As luck would have it, your father and I were in Lake George NY on Sep. 11/02 – 1 year after. We were in a restaurant there having breakfast when the radio announcer said they would observe a minute’s silence. Your father and I stopped and observed the minute’s silence and I said a silent prayer. We were the only people there who observed this minute’s silence and we were Canadian. On Wed. we were in Michigan and all the TV stations talked about that day. It still gives me a sense of horror when I think back to what happened that day. I also watched a TV Movie about the flight that went down in PA. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for the people on the ground who were talking to their loved ones on that plane knowing what the passengers were planning to do to prevent that plane from hitting the Capital building or the White House. The passengers on that plane were also heroes along with the police, medics and fire fighters.
The older I become, the more I appreciate the simple things in life and yes, I do stop to smell the roses and to take joy in the beautiful things all around us such as the turning of the leaves, insects, butterflies and just yesterday I was watching a slug on the patio while having my morning coffee. My first instinct was to kill it, but then I thought, the slug is not harming me and I am sure that slugs are there for a reason, so I let it live and watched it crawl ever so slowly along the concrete.
I take joy in watching young children learn and discover a simple blade of grass, a butterfly flitting from flower to flower.
Thank you Janice for reminding us to care for each other, and to stop and reflect on what happened that horrible day 7 years ago. We should also stop to pray for our troops that are overseas who are today’s heroes.

It seems impossible that it has been seven years. The world has changed so much and, I fear, not for the better…
