I just want to say thank you for sharing this. I think we all tend to forget that we aren’t as anonymous on the
Internet as it seems. As someone re-entering the workforce post-blog your heads up is greatly appreciated.
Yes, very valid points. I know, I was the victim of an almost dooce but instead I just agreed to take down my site. I am now anonymous and will remain that way.
I had a “work vs. blog” incident about 3 months after starting a new job (this was over a year ago…). To this day I’m not quite sure of the truth to the matter but am very suspicious of our very own HR department giving out my URL!!! I was “spoken to” by both my boss and one of the board members! Not only was I “strongly advised” to remove the work related comments, but the bitch boss put it in my review 3 months after that! Talk about furious.
Keep in mind there was only 1 negative comment on the blog (amid dozens of others praising the company) that specifically indicated my boss and I had a small incident of miscommunication. I didn’t even call her the Hobbit from Hell that she is! Her discussion at me, sanctioned by HR, was to the effect, “Posting your comments to the internet is like standing out front of our building with a “This company sucks” sign.”
I strenuously disagreed and made it very clear that it was actually more akin to someone [holding a position that ought to be able to handle confidential information] stealing the keys to MY personal journal and ripping out a page to share with everyone.
Needless to say, I changed the blog location and locked my work entries.. and I no longer work for the woman who caused me grief.

First off? Glad you weren’t a victim of savage Doocing. Second? All very good suggestions you made there. Thanks for sharing.
