“Mommy, Sierra is a BISH”

So I immediately get angry:
“Brooke! We don’t call people names in our family!”

Brooke then responds:
“But mommy! Sierra IS a BISH”

I then get REALLY angry:
“BROOKE! Are you arguing with me?”

Brooke then gets upset:
“No – I’m not arguing!”

I then respond:
“Then why are you calling your sister a bitch?! We don’t call people names in our family”

Brooke gets really sad and upset and starts crying
“No mommy! Sierra is a bish – she loves to swim”

Brooke can’t pronounce the “F” in fish… Ooops!

2yo Brooke w Best Friend Opa

My dad is the kind of guy who can’t sit still. He played softball, bowled and coached my brothers softball team, yet he always found time to come to my softball, bowling, field hockey and lacrosse games. He was my #1 fan at ALL of my sports. Now that he’s older he can’t play sports the way he used to, but he’s still a very passionate curler and golfer, and the #1 fan of my kids soccer – driving an hour out to watch them play whenever he can. My weekends with my dad were spent throwing a softball in the backyard, and after dinner we would often go for a walk around the block – it didn’t matter if it was winter or not. My middle daughter calls him “Best Friend Opa” and is heart broken if a weekend goes by without seeing him. I love my dad and the love of all things sport that he’s instilled in me, and now in my own daughters.

I love you dad – Happy Father’s Day!

Today was the race – with everything going on at home lately (NKOTB concert, solo parenting, Sierra’s birthday and Hubby coming home from LA), I almost forgot about the race, but remembered last night – ooops!  Sierra had gymnastics class, so hubby took her there, while I brought Amber and Brooke to the race.

We arrived there with only a few minutes to spare… Basically long enough for my dad to introduce me to a few people he knew, and to snap this pic:

Then it was time to find the start line… It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done a fun run – my bib had a timing chip on it, but I couldn’t find any start mats – that’s because it was DRAWN on the ground with CHALK!  The gun went off just as I reached the start.

Away I went!  My Nike+ was telling me I was running a 4:30/km pace, but I refused to believe it after it lied to me two weeks ago about my pace.  It was cloudy so I thought that was interfering with the GPS. I ran hard, could feel my heart POUNDING and my hammy’s screaming at me, but I kept on pushing.  I finally found a distance marker that said 3k – my GPS said I was at the 3.5k and running 4:45/km – a pace I’ve NEVER ran before so I continued to push on – at this point I realised I could set a new 5k PR, so  I ran and ran – lungs hanging out feeling like I was gonna die. I wanted to do my dad proud and run as hard as I could.

I then saw the finish line, my mom and dad with Brooke and Amber waving to me.  At this point I had a hard time pushing as hard as I had been, but saw the official race clock 24:57… If I kept pushing all the way I really could set a new PR! So that’s what I did - I pushed and crossed the finish line in….

After the race I hung out with my family to find out the official race results.  I knew that I could be close to finishing in the top 10, and in some races a 25 min 5k is good enough for a top 3 finish (I left a race early once only to find out a year later that I had left before gathering my prize).  I stretched and my mom captured this pic:

I learned something today… I learned that the BodyPump classes I’m taking are really helping me to develop the STRENGTH I need to be a FAST runner – something I’ve never really considered myself to be. I’m curious now to find out how fast I can run if I trained instead of just running – I’m seriously considering putting some more effort into my training for the ScotiaBank 1/2 marathon I’ve registered for that’s in October.

Sierra: We walked at school for money today.
Me: Was it a fundraiser. (She heard “fun” raiser)
Sierra: No – it wasn’t. It wasn’t fun.
Me: Why wasn’t it fun?
Sierra: They wouldn’t let us run at all.

Ha ha – I think I would have said the same thing if I was her age… Who am I kidding, walk-a-thons aren’t fun at my age – I’d much rather run too.

I didn’t know how my kids would react to them, though they were very eager to try them. I vlogged their tremendously raw and honest review, and am rather thankful that I did because there is no way I could ever describe this in words:

All in all, 5 year old Sierra liked the flavour, but not the texture.  As for 3 year old Brooke… I had a hard time convincing her to try the POPChips I was sent to review after this experience.

I looked over the label, and the % daily values are based on a 2000 calorie diet, and in many cases there was well over 100% of the recommended daily value in the vitamins. The bottle suggests two vitamins/day for children over the age of 2. Now I don’t know about your kids, but mine certainly do not consume 2000 calories/day. Heck! I don’t even cosume that many calories in a day!  Basically a child would get WELL over 200% of the required amount of many vitamins and minerals.  I’m not a nutritionist, but I truly believe more is not always better.

My review? Save your money and just feed your children nutrient rich HEALTHY foods.

This is my first letter to you. I wrote a few letters to your sisters when they were babies, so its only fair that I write a letter to you too.  I’ll try to write a few more during your first year, ok?

What can I say about you sweetie? You’re AH-mazing! Healthy, smart, beautiful and so HAPPY! Little lady, you never ever stop smiling! This is the face that greets me each morning when you wake up:

Amber - 4 mos

You’re such a happy baby! You sleep well, you eat well and you LOVE your sisters! Actually truth be told, they love you too! You giggle at all of their crazy antics and I’m sure you can’t wait to start moving around and playing with them. Sierra always wants to snuggle and hold you, while Brooke likes to show you her toys.

Amber & I at Sunset Beach

Last month daddy and I took you to HAWAII! Yes! You and I got to spend a great week together exploring the Island of Oahu while daddy worked.  We went to Sea Life Park and saw real live WILD whales breeching in the ocean! Then we drove along the coast to Sunset Beach and watched the surfers, followed by a trip to Waimea Falls, StrollerStrides at Ala Moana Park, and a visit to Honlulu Zoo.  We even visited Waikiki Beach together I had such a great time with you!  I was hesitant to fly so far with you – but you travelled quite well – in fact you thought the turbulence was funny and giggled for the first time!

Tomorrow I’ll be bringing you to the Dr’s for your 4 month well baby check up – I’m quite curious to see how much you weigh because you’ve outgrown so many clothes!

Oh Amber- you have brought so much joy to our lives!  I love you sweetie!

Wow!!! You’re 1 month old now! It feels like you’ve been a part of our family forever. You just fit in so well with us.

You’re an amazing sleeper, and eater. Yes – you just eat & sleep, just like your daddy! The other day I placed you on your tummy to do some “tummy time” and you fell asleep! Your sisters were playing in the room too, but you didn’t let that bother you at all.

I’ve noticed lately that you can see.  You can focus on my hand if I hold it in front of your face, and if I move it side to side your eyes and head follow along.  You had a bit of a wandering eye at birth, but it seems to be straightening out on is own.  You also can recognize our voices.  If you hear daddy’s voice when he gets home from work you turn your head towards the door.  You also smile when you see him.  It’s so cute! And you have a beautiful smile.

This month will be your first Christmas – we’ll be bringing you up to meet your family in Ottawa.  I apologize in advance for the long car ride.

We love you Amber and are absolutely enjoying every single moment with you!
