Computer Illiterate

Yep – that’s me – I’ve been wondering this for many years – so don’t laugh at me if you know the answer….

You know when you’re typing something in MS Word, and say you want to make it bold so you hilight it and press {control -B} , or if you want italics you hilight it and press {control -I} – well how do you turn something that you wrote into all caps, or all lower case without deleting it and re-typing it? Am I just computer illiterate, or an incredibly bad typer? (I frequently turn the caps lock on accidentally while typing).

Hmmmm I am wondering the same thing…I am constantly having to re-type!

  2. Imara says:

Simply highlight the text, go to ‘Format’, then ‘Font’, and under the ‘Effects’ section, you can check the checkbox for ‘All Caps’. Vice versa if you want to switch from all caps to lower case.

    Hope this helps!

Look under format and there should be a heading “Change case” and make your selection. I’ll help you with the typing since you have helped me with the blogging:smile:

  4. Blue says:

You can change case with out deleting and retyping?

    *Passes out*

Now how on earth did you know that I needed the answer to that very question:?:

  6. outburst says:

or highlight the text and hit Shift->F3

  7. Leah says:

Wow, I don’t consider myself computer illiterate, but I had no idea there was a way you can do that.

  8. jafer says:

Yes, the shift+F3 works very well and will scroll through the options offered if you choose Format → Change Case, where you’ll see: sentence case, lower case, upper case, title case and toggle case. Each time you hit shift+F3 you’ll get the next option (a little faster than retyping everything  )

  9. Also you can turn on “auto-correct” so that it will auto-change text after a period even if you type all small or all caps it will change things so that first letter is a cap and small after that. If it changes something you don’t want changed, you simply hit Ctrl-z to undo the “auto-change”
