Don’t Call Me Janet
I’m logging in for a brief moment to say “Hi” – *waves hi to everyone* and to vent. I need to get this off of my chest… errrr… my ENORMOUS cleavage:
DON’T CALL ME JANET!
I hate it when people get my name wrong. The only other thing that crawls under my skin as much as getting my name wrong is laziness. My name is Janice – not Denise, Shannon, Jane or Janet. I particularly hate being called Janet. I can handle it if you spell my name wrong – that’s an honest mistake. Janice/Janis what’s the difference? You knew my name and that’s what matters.
But calling me Janet? That means you weren’t listening – you were hearing, but you certainly weren’t paying attention. It’s like calling Mike, Mark, or calling Tim, Tom.
My dad’s sister is Janet. Before I got married, if people called me Janet, I would respond, “Janet xxxx” is my aunt.” ‘Cause that’s the truth – she’s my aunt. We shared a last name, but not a first name. I have nothing against my aunt, she’s an incredible lady – I just want to be unique, different, an individual.
Got that?
I am JANICE – hear me…ummm.. roar? Nah – hear me VENT!
I hear you sister. Try having a last name like Hammerbeck. Folks get really creative/lazy with that one. Bonus: there’s a guy at work who’s been calling me “Ted” for 8+ years now.

Is there a nickname we can use?
I guess at one time it could have been Double-J.
I know what you mean. Lots of times people call me “Jaffie” instead of “Jafer” and it pisses me off to no end. I hate being called Jaffie, and they never even ask if they can call me that. I guess they don’t get the whole introduction thing where someone says, “this is Jafer (not Jaffie)”. Last time it happened, I said, “what did you call me?” and got a sputtering response about how it was a nickname, don’t I use a nickname? I said no.

Honey, I feel your pain! At least your name is normal. There is NO excuse for people calling you Denise or Shannon – they don’t start with the same letter as Janice and they don’t even rhyme. BTW – how’s the new job going? I have some bad news re: our BBQ. Email me and I’ll tell you all the gory details.
Janice doesn’t sound like Janet at all! Vent away. It’s sort of like people who call my son Robert…his name is Robbie. Call people what they tell you their names are…it’s simple courtesy. Opps, now I’m venting too.

Well Janice do you feel better now? LOL I understand how you feel. What you might do to help people get your name right … after you politely have corrected them at least once … is intentionally call them by some other name, then they might get the idea they need to address you correctly. Vent away!!
A lady around town calls me Holly all the time. I kinda don’t get it but I guess it’s from my last name. Also weird because that was Hubby’s nickname in high school (about a billion years ago) from his football coach.

And I hate being called Anne – my name is Anna!
I hear ya J. Is it okay for me to call you J? After this long I think it’d be a hard habit to break.
I get irritated when people spell my name Kimberley… I’m like HELLO, there is no EY, just Y!!
