This is my Mamavation post for Monday, January 3, 2011
How was your week last week? I hope your week was as fantastic as mine – I finally got back on track! I started the Couch to 5K iPhone app on December 24th – I didn’t use my own Learn-to-run 5K program because I wanted to compare mine to it. I must admit that being told when to walk and run was great – I can never figure out how to program the dual alarms on my Timex IronMan watch… When I’ve coached clinics I’ve always brought a whistle with me and blew it whenever it was time to switch between walking and running. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to coach anymore, so I wish I knew how to program iPhone apps – I think that the app store is sadly lacking in low impact workouts for beginners and could benefit from a walk n tone app, or other learn to run apps. Anyways – if you have an iPod Touch or an iPhone I strongly recommend checking out some of the health apps – I’m writing a post about the ones I’ve tried thus far.
So more about my week:
I “ran” this week – or as @Krazy_Kris says, I wogged. I wogged FOUR times!!! I also did ONE Shred workout and ONE EASports Active More Workout! The best part of my week was that I also inspired my kids – The weather was nice, hovering near the Zero Celsius mark, and on TWO of my runs my 5 yo daughter, Sierra, rode her bike alongside me. She had a great time! My 3 yo Brooke also rode in the jogging stroller for another run. The most priceless thing was watching the girls excitedly find their “fiti-ness” clothes so they could do the Shred with me. I do the push ups over top of Amber, so my daughters just HAD to do push ups over top of their dollies as well. Too cute.
So here’s a summary of what I accomplished:
Monday: Did the EASports Active More Workout – set p the 6 week challenge, but I don’t ENJOY the workout that much because getting the wii to recognize my movements is frustrating, so I only did the one workout on Monday this week.
Tuesday: Ran – Couch to 5K Week 1, day 2 BY MYSELF!
Wednesday: Did the Shred Level 1 with all 3 of my daughters
Thursday: Ran – Couch to 5K Week 1, day 3 Sierra rode her bike with me
Friday: Ran – Couch to 5K Week 2, day 1 Sierra rode her bike while I pushed Brooke in the jogging stroller
Saturday: Did the EASports Active More Workout
Sunday: Ran – Couch to 5K Week 2, day 2
I also set some pretty lofty goals for this coming year – goals that I’ve followed up with a plan and I’ve taken the first steps towards accomplishing them – I’ve registered for FOUR races while the entry fee is LOW and my motivation is HIGH:
- 8K race April 2
- 10K race May 14th
- Half Marathon May 29th
- Sprint Triathlon early September
- Half Marathon October 16th
My overall goal is to prevent post-partum depression by running. It would also be cool to beat my mileage from last year, just like last year I kicked 2009′s arse even though I was PREGNANT! Check it out!
I owe it all to you guys for inspiring me and keeping me going – so this year I want to lead by example and also inspire YOU!!
This coming week will be more challenging because everyone is back to their routines and life will be super busy again. To combat that, here’s my plan:
Monday: Do the Shred Level 1 with my daughters
Tuesday: Run – Couch to 5K Week 2, day 3 – push Amber in the jogging stroller while oder daughters are back at preschool/school
Wednesday: Do the Shred Level 1 with my daughters
Thursday: Mommy & Baby Zumba class (free trial being offered)
Friday: Run – Couch to 5K Week 3, day 1 – I’ll need to get up early to do this because my double jogger doesn’t hold an infant seat & Amber is too small to ride without it.
Sunday: Run – Couch to 5K Week 3, day 2
I’ll also sit down and come up with a meal plan tonight because meals is where I really #fail.
BLOGGING CARNIVAL: This week’s blogging carnival is sponsored by @GameStop. Game Stop is also the star of this week’s twitter party on 5 January. The details of the the carnival prize will be posted soon. What are ways you can work out without having to leave the house?
Obvously my choices are clear – either with my Shred DVD or with my EASports Active More Workout for the Wii.
Have a great week everyone!!
Fitness Tip of The Day: The frequency of your strength training depends on whether your goals are to get bigger and stronger (less often) or whether you want to get leaner and more defined muscles (more often).
