Perspective

So this past week with Sierra has been tough – she’s had her first cold. For those of you who’ve been there you know what that means. Our record for most times waking up in the night was set on Thursday night with 7 – Yes SEVEN! times. Even as a newborn eating every 3 hours the most times we were ever up in a night was 4. My poor baby’s little nose was all stubbed ub. And then there was the coughing – dry, hacking, cough til she threw up coughing. Arrghh! I asked Cosmo Boy if she would fit back in – you know – just until she got over her cold. No luck :frown:

!@(memaidbaby.jpg popimg: “Milagros Cerron”)But along came Oprah… Did anyone see yesterday’s show? Well if you missed it you certainly missed a good one. Those with kids will truly appreciate them atfer watching this episode. I certainly did. There was a wee little girl – just over a year old who had “Mermaid Syndrome” :

Sirenomelia, a rare condition characterized by fused legs and feet.

OMG! Those poor parents! The mom was nursing her – which must be tough when your wee one is in and out of hospital. Dr’s have now seperated her legs – a miracle! I feel so sorry for what they had to go through yet at the same time I’m so inspired for their courageousness. It really put things in perspective and the next time Sierra has “just a cold” I’m going to nurture her back to health and not wallow around in self-pity over my lack of sleep – afterall it could be way worse. Thank you Oprah for sharing this wonderful story!

I understand completely. It is often hard to keep perspective when you are totally immersed in the baby thing! It is always amazing to see the courage of some families. I am glad it helped you through a tough time (colds in infants SUCK…I totally understand!)

It always seems to be the way. Just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any worse for you, you hear of someone else who is a lot worse off than you are and you wonder how they manage. Some of the people I’ve met or heard of can be very inspiring and make you see things in a different light. I always think of the saying “There but for the grace of God, go I.” Words to ponder and think about.

I live in fear of the first cold. And I haven’t been feeling so hot lately. Ugh.

Its so hard when they are babies and sick. And you know what? Even when my ‘big’ babies are sick I still have times when I’m up a couple of times in the night to make sure they take a dose of medicine or hold their head while they’re sick. I hope Sierra is feeling better soon!

You’re quite right, it’s so easy to lose sight of the fact that many of us have it quite good in relation to the plight of others.

Hey, 7 times is just the beginning! But take heart, it does get… Tried to rent your blog and cannot for the life of me figure out how!

Perspectives change when we see those who have had more trials and tribulations than we have had.
