Snip, Snip, Snip

Its amazing what a fresh new haircut can do for one’s mood.  Yesterday I was feeling a bit down in the dumps – I felt really "frumpy".  I saw a blog post somewhere about the mommy uniform and I could totally relate: baggy sweat pants, crocs instead of heels, hair in a pony tail, old maternity t-shirt, nursing bras, maternity panties…  You get the picture.  I looked at myself:

baggy sweats – check
crocs – check
pony tail – check
old maternity t-shirt – check
nursing bra – check
maternity undies – check

Who is this person in the mirror?  I used to take such good care of myself.  Putting a sexy curl in my hair before I ever left the house, fresh makeup, nice fashionable clothes, jewellery etc…  I’ve traded convenience for style – I roll out of bed, get the kiddos dressed and rummage from the pile of laundry on the floor for a shirt without snot on it and a pair of jeans that are somewhat clean.  Socks?  Who knows how many times I’ve worn the same pair this week.  No wonder I’ve felt down in the dumps.  No wonder I feel more alive when I’m back at work – when I’m working I take the time to get dressed nice, do my hair, make up etc… No wonder my hubby won’t touch me with a 10 foot pole.

I digress…  Yesterday I got my hair cut.  I hated my old haircut `cause it looked best in a pony tail and that’s not saying much.  I chopped it into an all one length shoulder length bob.  I apologize in advance to subjecting you to the self portrait – did you know there’s an art to taking pics of yourself?  Apparently you have to look at the camera reflection in the mirror otherwise your eyes look all freaky and shit.  Took me 8 tries to figure that out – apparently I’m a slow learner.  Anyways, here’s the pic of the new ‘do’:

Alright – it’s not that great of a cut, but at least it inspired me to do my laundry and pick out some nicer clothes, wear some jewellery and do my make up today.  Hopefully it’ll keep me out of my mommy uniform for the next week or so.

I think you look fantastic! I got mine cut before Easter while we were visiting my folks and I could take my time…colour, cut, the whole shebang. I felt great for over a week, and that’s saying something! Now if I could just find time to do it… It needs a straightener or it doesn’t look good so it ends up in a clip a lot.

Thanks for the self portrait tip – I had no idea!

I LOVE getting my hair cut and I can totally relate to the mommy uniform. I try to pull myself together to go out with the kids, but the second I get home, it’s old sweats and stained t-shirts. SO sexy.

Your new cut looks awesome! Aw, crud, I’ve got the uniform on now. Hard for me to think about getting a new haircut when my hair is still falling out in clumps from hormones. Plus, I made a deal with my husband, he keeps his goatee if I grow my hair long. And I *really* like the goatee….

That haircut looks great! It really suits you, quite stylish and elegant. Nobody’ll mistake you for the sahm.

Now you just have to go out on June 1st to the Aurora street festival and buy some lovely jewellery to go with your new look ;)

It’s too bad I didn’t take a pic of you yesterday when I was over. Your hair really looked great then! Love you bunches even in your sweats with baby drool and snot on your old maternity tops!

    Looks great!
I think the mom wardrobe starts the moment you get pregnant. First goes the pants (they no longer fit), then the hair and make-up (can barely get up in the morning..), and then goes the shoes (seriously with an extra few pounds and swollen feet – who can wear heels).

I love your hair and it looks great! I am right there with you on the Mommy uniform. The day and a half I actually work in an office with other adults (gasp!) is nice because I HAVE to ditch the ol’ uniform and find a shirt that doesn’t have my son’s dinner from the night before smeared all over it.

Very nice haircut – It suits you. It’s simple and easy to take care of and you don’t even have to think about what to do with your hair in the morning. It’s already done for you! :

Run, fat boy, run – wanna see it with me (your schedule permitting, of course)? When was the last time you saw a movie, in a movie theatre???
