This Is Why We Have Kids

Kids do the darndest things don’t they? Sometimes those “darndest things” are funny. And isn’t this the reason we have them – you know, because of the joy they bring to our lives? (They bring strife too – but that’s a whole ‘nother post). Now that Sierra is completely mobile (she’s skipped walking and gone straight onto running – just like her mommy…) she gets into things more than she did when she was crawling. I guess it was too hard to crawl and carry things, but now with running she can transport things anywhere she wants…

Well on Sunday morning we discovered just how much trouble a 12 month old can get into when left to their own devices. We have one cupboard left in the kitchen to put a latch onto (you can see where this is going). In it I have old Christmas cards, some craft supplies, a dust pan, serving trays and J-cloths. Essentially a hodge podge of junk – I need to get all Fly Lady and clean it out. Sierra has figured out which cupboard she can get into, and gets into it quite frequently. Usually she just empties out the old cards and plays with them. But not Sunday. On Sunday morning I was sitting in the living room talking with my dad, when I realized the main floor was eerily quiet… I looked at Sierra’s toy box – no Sierra. I looked in the kitchen – no Sierra (instead there were Christmas cards and J-Cloths all over the place). I looked down the hall to the gate… GAH! It was open! I looked down the hall to the foyer – no Sierra. I looked at the bathroom – the door was ajar… I went in… There she was – dipping a J-cloth into the toilet, then sucking the water out of it! How gross is that? The kid was thirsty and decided to get help herself to a drink! Although it was completely disgusting and gross, all I could do was laugh, after all – it made complete sense to her.

    Ewwwww. But hilarious.

Our little one keeps trying to grab his diaper or penis when we are trying to change his poopy diapers. Yuck.

Honestly, sometimes all you can do is throw your hands up in the air and laugh.

think of the ingenuity. She figures that she’s thirsty, but decides to be self reliant. McGyver’s her own device to get the water. Travels the length of the place to get what she needs. Very resourceful! I would hide the car keys!
