Wait For Me!

Remember back in February when I reported that Rob and I had seen "the look" in Brooke’s eyes – the "look" that suggested she figured out that there are things across the room that she could get if she could crawl?  Well we’ve officially stopped waiting for her to crawl – as her preferred mode of transportation is now the butt scoot.  But now we’ve seen another "look" in her eyes.  The lightbulb of recognition has gone off yet again!  Yesterday, Brooke learned to butt scoot herself over to furniture and pull herself up to standing.  Now she’s been pulling up to standing using my leg for a week or so, but yesterday she realized that she doesn’t need mommy – oh no, she can do it all by herself.  Last night she was giggling and singing (yes actually singing, repeating La, la, la, la over and over while swaying her head side to side) while she pulled herself up to standing on anything that was over a foot tall.  Beanbag chair?  Check!  Couch?  Check!  Table?  Check!  Rottweiler?  Check!   (Stupid dog – so much for my "vicious attack dog" – LOL!).

Brooke also loves to hold our hands and go tap-a-tap (that’s what my mom calls it) to be walked around the house.  Brooke is reasonably stable, and is quite good at lifting her feet and making the walking motion.  She’s been watching Sierra like a hawk, and I swear if she could talk she’d be screaming "WAIT FOR ME!".  My wee baby can’t wait to start running around with her sister, and I have a very sneaking suspicion that she’ll accomplish that well before her first birthday (9 weeks from now).  Go Brooke go!

Oh, I remember that look. And my second child walked at 10 months just so she could try to keep up with her big brother. And get into his things. The fun is just beginning.

Look out world, here comes Brooke! If she’s anything like her sister, she’ll be running before you know it. Go Brooke, go!

I’ll never forget my wife and I standing about four feet away from each other and willing our son to go walk to the other person over and over. It was definitely off-kilter and frightening but it seemed that after a few days of that he was off and running.
So is it any easier the 2nd time around?
