Yet Another Reason To Breastfeed

THIS is some scary stuff:

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Popular plastic baby bottles leach a hormone-disrupting chemical when heated, possibly posing a danger to infants, according to a study released Thursday by a consortium of consumer groups.

The study, which focused  on six major brands of baby bottles sold in the United States and Canada, found that bisphenol A, used to make polycarbonate plastic, was given off by heated bottles in amounts that were within the range shown to cause harm in animal studies. Obesity, cancer, early-onset puberty and other conditions have been linked to BPA in animal experiments.

Thankfully, even once Sierra was weaned from the breast, I used Playtex bottles with the drop in liners.  Now I have to wonder – how safe are the sippy cups that she’s using?

Makes me really angry because the companies, like all of us, knew that there was a potential danger there that was being studied. Yet none of them did a single thing to be proactive about it, that I know of.

It’s unbelievable how many things they find out aren’t safe. How did they get invented in the first place? Weren’t there any kind of safety standards in place that prevent this?

It almost makes you afraid to go out of the house – no wait, half those hazardous things are in the house!

You should post this on Milton Mommies. I would – but people just think of me as a militant breastfeeder and don’t take me serious anymore if you know what I mean.
